Journal History

The journal is the successor to “Uchenye zapiski MOPI im. N.K. Krupskaya”, which in 1978 received permission from the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR and the State Committee for Publishing of the USSR for the right to publish the main results of doctoral dissertations.

In 1998, the scientific journal “Bulletin of Moscow Region State University. Series: Natural Sciences" began to be published, with an initial focus on biological, geographical, physical and mathematical, and chemical sciences. Then the Bulletin of Moscow Region State University. Series: Natural Sciences began to publish articles thematically related only to geographic-environmental and biological and chemical sciences, while publications in physical and mathematical sciences became a separate series. Since 2020, the journal has concretized its subject field, and the editorial board has identified the following priority issues: current problems of geographical ecology and environmental indication, the most important trends in the spatial development of countries and regions, and the role of ‘green’ technologies in creating a comfortable urban environment and greening industry. These thematic principles were reflected in the change in the title of the scientific journal, which from January 2020 to the present is called Geograficheskaya sreda i zhivye sistemy/Geographical Environment and Living Systems.
